Bal Sanskar Shivir

In today's rapidly changing world, children find themselves at the intersection of modernity and tradition. It falls upon parents and educators to strike a delicate balance, preserving essential traditional values while adapting to the dynamic changes of the present.

Regardless of our diverse origins, all humans share a common cultural heritage and traditions. Fostering a connection to one's roots becomes crucial for children growing up amid these shifts. A solid understanding of culture and traditions serves as a foundation, promoting a sense of belonging and identity.

Cultural awareness and familiarity with one's traditions significantly contribute to children's positive identity development. In the grand scheme, the current generation of youngsters holds the responsibility of passing on heritage, beliefs, and legacy to the next. Therefore, imparting knowledge about culture and traditions to children not only benefits them individually but also instills a sense of duty to preserve and carry forward this diverse legacy.

Initiated in 2008, Braj Gopika Seva Mission (BGSM) introduced camps for children through the Baal Sanskar Shivir. The frequency of these shivirs aligns with school vacations to ensure widespread participation. Even during the challenging times of the pandemic, the program seamlessly transitioned online, connecting aspiring individuals globally and proving to be more accessible than its offline counterpart.

The Baal Sanskaar Shivir's curriculum is deeply rooted in the spiritual heritage of India. Commencing at 4.30 in the morning with Arti, Vedic chants, and yoga, a typical day within the ashram campus, surrounded by sanyasis and with limited personal conveniences, imparts essential life skills, fostering inner strength. While a mere seven days of practice may not bring about a complete transformation, the acquired learnings serve as a foundational building block in shaping the participants' personalities.

BGSM is committed to facilitating the transition of children into adulthood as informed, self-assured, and inclusive citizens. To achieve this, the organization places emphasis on establishing a robust foundation of acceptance and belonging. This involves actively engaging children in cultural celebrations and encouraging their participation in a diverse social network.
